Feeling nervous about the gym is normal. It doesn't mean you don't belong there. Most of the people you're worried about are busy counting reps and hoping nobody noticed their shorts. This path covers the unwritten rules, what to say, and how to build confidence one visit at a time.
Your first step

Read "Feeling nervous"Your first few weeks
- Go with a planWrite down three or four things you'll do before you arrive. A plan in your pocket means less standing around wondering what to do next.
- Go at quieter timesMid-morning and early afternoon are usually calmer than evenings. Fewer people, more space, less pressure.
- Ask staff for helpAsk a member of staff to show you how a machine adjusts. It's part of their job, and most of them like being asked.
- One new thing per visitTry one new machine or exercise each time. Confidence comes from things becoming familiar, not from forcing yourself through everything at once.
